Two Sycamore High School music students, Ella Rose Atkins and Kjelden Breidenbach, were chosen and honored to participate in the 2016 Chicago Youth in Music Festival recently held at Orchestra Hall in Chicago. These students were selected via audition as members of the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra. The festival web page states the Chicago Youth in Music Festival is a celebration of young classical musicians from across Greater Chicago. It is presented by the Negaunee Music Institute at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) in partnership with the city’s leading community music schools and youth orchestra programs. Artistic leadership is provided by Chicago Symphony Orchestra Music Director Riccardo Muti, Judson and Joyce Green Creative Consultant Yo-Yo Ma, Civic Orchestra Principal Conductor Cliff Colnot, musicians of the CSO and the Civic Fellows of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. The Festival Orchestra is an advanced ensemble that consisted of two evening rehearsals, sectional rehearsals with Chicago Symphony Orchestra members, and culminated with a performance under the baton of Maestro Gennady Rozhdestvensky.
